Acer., no slouch when it comes to contending in the personal computer space, have announced their plans to go into the
ebook book reader arena later this year.
Acer senior manager Jim Wong, leader of the companies IT Products division, outlined the plans during an interview with Bloomberg at Acer's offices in Taipei.
The day before Apple's supposed entry into the tablet sweeps-a gadget that will serve e book readers over and above others-Wong also said the company will furthermore put forward "hundreds" of apps online, programs that should sustain Google's Android platform, now running on some Acer goods, over and above supporting Microsoft's Windows OS.
Before this summer is out, Acer will be expected to make available an ebook reader with a 6-inch black and white screen, Mr. Wong told Bloomberg. "Amazon kindle and B&N; they are U.S.-centric. In Europe and Australasia we have publishers to work with, and nearly all of them are content owners," he maintained. Acer will go up against models including the Kindle2 , B and N Inc.'s Nook and Sony's Ereader and so it will be easy to compare ebook reader models.
Acer also has the Apple "iSlate"-when it emerges-to contend with. "We are developing something, and we should observe what occures" J.T. Wang, Acer's CEO, maintained in the commentary. "We are sure to work either in a Windows world or in Google's definite OS space."
